Voter Registration
To register to vote in Idaho you must:
- Be a U.S. Citizen
- Have resided in Idaho and in the county for thirty (30) days prior to the day of election
- Be at least 18 years old.
You cannot register to vote in Idaho if:
- You have been convicted of a felony and have not yet had your civil rights restored.
Free ID – Idaho Department of Transportation offers a free ID for voting – DMV Free ID for Voting
Acceptable documents for proof of residence and photo ID for registering to vote
- Photo ID
- Valid Idaho driver’s license
- If the current address is on ID, no proof of residency document is needed
- Valid Tribal ID
- If the current address is on ID, no proof of residency document is needed
- Valid concealed weapons ID
- If the current address is on ID, no proof of residency document is needed
- Valid US Passport
- Proof of residency is required
- Valid Idaho driver’s license
- Proof of residence
- Deed of trust/mortgage/lease/rental agreement
- Property tax assessment/bill/receipt
- Utility bill (no cell phone bill)
- Paystub/paycheck or government-issued check
- Proof of insurance
- Bank or credit card statement
- School enrollment paper from current year
- Official letter from registered social service agency
Intake document from residential care/assisted living facility
How to register to vote:
- Online voter registration is now available.
- You must have an Idaho driver’s license or Idaho identification card to use online voter registration
- Voter Registration form – print your Idaho Voter Registration Form or pick one up from the County Clerk’s office
- Mail the completed form and a copy of one of the required photo ID and proof of residency documents to:

- The county elections office will mail you a verification letter to let you know that your registration was received.
**IMPORTANT!**
If mailed, the registration card must be postmarked by the 24th day before an election.
