Snake River Quagga Mussel Treatment

The Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) is currently conducting a multiphase copper treatment in the Snake River to control and eradicate quagga mussels. Recent sampling shows a 77% reduction in quagga mussels compared with 2025, and previous treatments have helped contain the infestation to a limited area.

The treatment will use Natrix and EarthTec QZ, copper-based products approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for aquatic applications. The application rate is below the drinking water standard for copper.

Out of an abundance of caution, ISDA recommends that people, pets and livestock stay out of the dissipation area between Hansen Bridge and Highway 46 Bridge from Aug. 27 through Sept. 16. This precaution is recommended even though it is not required by the product labels.

More information can be found at Idaho.Gov/Quagga

Temporary Boat Launch Closures

While the treatment is implemented, access to the Mid-Snake River will remain open, with temporary closures at the Twin Falls and Shoshone Falls Boat Launches. These closures are intended to allow for ISDA crews to safely and efficiently implement the treatment. Anticipated closure dates are subject to change:

Twin Falls Boat Launch: August 27 – September 5.

Shoshone Falls Boat Launch: September 6 – September 13.
